Over the next week or so, there are going to be some big changes to the Vinyl Fetish site.
The most obvious change will be a move to Wordpress. The site is currently running on Joomla and while that was a good choice when it was set up originally, Joomla development has become more or less stagnant and it just doesn't support anything like what I want to do with this site.
Second, mixes will be hosted on Soundcloud (my new mixes are already going there). While that will mean that there are fewer mixes hosted, it will also mean that the ones that are hosted will be easier to find. I think this is going to be a huge improvement.
Finally, we're moving hosts. While I think Wordpress is going to be a big improvement, my long-term goal is to code something 100% custom so I'm guaranteed to be able to do anything I want. The current shared hosting doesn't really offer the flexibility I need so I'm moving everything to a dedicated server at a colo facility. There may be a couple of hiccups along the way but the short of it is that when you see the Wordpress site, you'll know you're looking at the new server. |

We'll be set up in the Broadmoor Theatre parking lot this Saturday, October 17, from noon to dark. It's open decks ... we'll have 1200s and Traktor Scratch Pro set up so if you have tunes on vinyl or a flash drive, just bring them out and you're good to go.
If you don't spin, come out anyway because it's going to be a great time. The whole Vinyl Fetish crew will be there and drhumbra and Doyle will be driving out from New Orleans. |
